Late last night, the Philadelphia Union released the following news: Philadelphia Union Acquire General Allocation Money From Colorado Rapids. Innocuous, yes, but it was actually worse than the headline alluded to — the Union front office sent Sebastien Le Toux to Colorado for some cash. CASH! For Union fans, Le Toux is the spirit of the team and this announcement late at night is the equivalent of the Colts sneaking out of Baltimore.
Le Toux has long been a fan favorite, not because he holds all the records, but he has embraced the Philly spirit. In 2012, he told the Daily Times this:
“It had gotten to the point where I said to them, to Nick, to Peter, to everyone, ‘Just give me a contract and I will sign it,'” said Le Toux, who spoke exclusively with the Daily Times. “I wanted to stay in Philly. I didn’t care about the money.”
Currently Le Toux holds the following records for the Philadelphia Union: games played, minutes played, goals, assists, shots, shots on goal, game winning goals, penalty kick goals, and multi-goal games.
Le Toux will be missed, but he will always be welcomed back.
